Why should I use a Facial Serum?

Written by Chanda Jackson-Cunningham
I am pretty sure many of you all are just like me. When I was in my teens, I struggled to find the perfect facial product. My acne was so bad, that my mom had to take me to a dermatologist to see if they could help me. Their help seemed to have made my skin sensitive (boy was that uncomfortable).
As I got older, I had some areas of my skin that was dry (bone dry) and some areas that was oily (I mean oily, I would rub my forehead to get the oil to rub on my dry cheeks). When I tell you the struggle was real, it was really real.
Now that I am in my 40s, I have moved pass the extremes of the facial drama. I am more so now in the occasional breakout. My main focus now is maintaining my youthful appearance (I’m humble, just wanted to make you chuckle.)
Like I mentioned, I am sure you have some of the same facial struggles as myself. Well, I have discovered a way to help with many of the skin issues we all face, regardless of what your skin type may be. What is it, you may ask? It is a facial serum.
What is a serum?
Facial serums typically consist of an oil- or water-based treatment that delivers highly concentrated, targeted nutrients to address one or more skin problems. You can use one alone, two together, or different ones on specific parts of your face.
Serums should be used after cleansing but before moisturizing—although if you have oily skin, you can get away with using a serum as a stand-alone product.
How to use a serum
Good serums can be pricey, (apart from the affordable serums Hello Sudz offers) but since you only use 1–2 drops at a time, they’ll last you quite a while. I apply serums twice a day after cleansing and toning. Here’s how to do it:
Put a few drops on the fingertips of your hands and gently pat the serum onto your face until it’s absorbed (rubbing it in a little won’t cause wrinkles; skin needs stimulation to strengthen, and it doesn’t hurt elasticity). Once the serum is completely dry and absorbed, follow with your favorite moisturizer to seal in those active ingredients and let it work its magic.
